Survivor Filter Pro Review: How to Purify Water Anywhere in the World

No matter where you find yourself in the world, you’re going to need to make sure that you have a reliable source of clean drinking water. How to Purify Water with Survivor Filter

With an outer shell made of military-grade BPA-free ABS plastic, the Survivor Filter Pro was created with the utmost of high-quality materials. 

Curious about how to purify water with the Survivor Filter Pro?

The answer: three stages of water filtration, each with a different filter.

The first stage of the Filter Pro is the Ultra Filter Pre-Filter, which is placed directly in the water source, which can be a lake, stream, or even a sink.

This filter layer removes pollen, algae, giardia, E.Coli, protozoan cysts, cryptosporidium, toxins, and heavy metals down to the .1 micron level. This filter stage is reusable and cleanable up to 100,000 liters (26,417 gallons) (read: a LOT of water).

Next is the Carbon Filter, which is made from food-grade coconut shells. This stage is designed to remove harmful materials that made it past the first filtration stage, including heavy metals, pollutants, and other chemicals. The Filter Pro Carbon Filter is reusable up to 2000 liters (528 gallons) and is easily replaceable.

The final stage of filtration of the Filter Pro is the Internal Ultra Filter. This final stage is designed to remove all impurities that made it past the other stages down to the .001 micron level. Tests have shown that it removes 99.99% of viruses, and it is easily cleanable after each trip up to 100,000 liters.

The kiddies we stayed with during our travels in Mongolia had a lot of fun with our Survivor Filters as well!

Filtering Water While Traveling

During our own travels, we found the Survivor Filter Pro incredibly easy to operate.

To use the device, you place the Pre-Filter into the water source and connect the inlet and outlet tubes to the Filter Pro pump. The Survivor Filter Pro comes with a plastic cup that is perfect for attaching the outlet tube to, but it’s also very simple to attach the outlet tube to any drinking bottle with the included tube clip.

Once you’ve attached the inlet and outlet tubes, just use the pump handle to filter out your water at a fast rate of up to 500 ml per minute.

The Filter Pro can be easily taken with you on any trip, as it weighs only 8 ounces and is 6.5 inches long, taking up little of the valuable space in your pack. We pumped the water for our next day every evening before bed, and were very happy with the results!

Survivor Filter Personal Water Filter

For water filtration on the go, the Survival Filter Personal Water Filter Straw is another convenient and very reliable way to purify your water.

Whereas the Pro version is fit for pre-filtering your water, the Personal Water Filter is a kind of drinking straw that filters your water as you drink it, making it perfect for individual, immediate use.

Filtering water down to the level of .005 microns, the Survivor Filter Personal Water Filter is 4 times as strong as the Lifestraw. This filter can be used directly from any water source just like a straw, and its design makes it easier to drink with than other filter straws.

With a flow rate of 200 ml (7 ounces) per minute, the Personal Water Filter is quite simple to use to quench your thirst safely anywhere you are.

In addition to being used as a straw directly in a water source, the Survivor Filter Personal Water Filter can also be used with the Survivor Filter Collapsible Canteens, as well as disposable water bottles with 28mm threading, making this the most versatile personal water filter available.

The Survivor Filter Personal Water Filter is light at 3.5 ounces and can easily fit in your pocket for quick access and easy transportation.

Three-Stage Water Filtration Process

The Personal Water Filter is able to remove 99.99% of all nasties from water thanks to its three-stage filtration process.

First, at the bottom of the filter is the water inlet/mesh pre-filter. This end sits directly in the water source, acting as the first line of defense by removing large particles from the water.

Next is the Membrane Ultra Filter, using hollow fiber membranes that block pollen, algae, bacteria, viruses, germs, heavy metals, and toxins.

The third and final stage is the Activated Carbon Filter, which has the ability to attract and stop the flow of chemicals and other impurities in the water.

As water flows through the carbon filter, the carbon granules act like a magnet which attract the impurities which have sneaked past the other steps of filtration, resulting in clean, good-tasting water for you!

Long-lasting Water Filters

Another aspect of the Survivor Filter Personal Water Filter that makes it stand out from the competition is that the straw and its components are fully reusable and replaceable.

Unlike other personal water filters which must be replaced when the recommended water volume has been filtered, the Survivor Filter Personal Water Filter’s components are all fully replaceable after 264 gallons (1000 liters) of use, for a fraction of the price of buying a brand-new filter, as well as greatly extending the life of your filter.

For our own travels, we relied on the Survivor Filter Personal Water Filter far less than the Pro, however it did come in handy in instances when we didn’t have our own sink or didn’t have time to pre-pump water.

While Survivor Filter’s personal straw is much faster flowing than its competitors, the flow of the water was still slower than drinking from a regular mouthpiece, so we always made sure to pre-pump our water with the Pro and store it in our Survivor Filter Collapsible Canteens whenever possible.

Survivor Filter Collapsible Canteens

For a lightweight solution to storing water while traveling, the Survivor Filter Collapsible Canteens are a great companion to any of the other Survivor Filter Products.

With a capacity of 33 ounces (1 liter), these collapsible bottles are incredibly travel-friendly and can be easily packed without taking up lots of valuable space or weight.

You can fill them from any water source and use them in conjunction with the Personal Water Filter screwed into the top, or fill them with pre-filtered water from the Survivor Filter Pro.
