Copenhagen City Card
It has been said that the people of Copenhagen are some of the happiest (and with such incredible Copenhagen sights and delicious food at the Copenhagen restaurants, it’s easy to see why). No wonder it’s one of the best countries to live in in the whole world! Definitely a worthy spot to visit with your loved one.
That being said, Copenhagen has one of the highest living costs in the world. You might just want to pack up a travel backpack for Europe and stick to a vacation as the best way to soak up the top Copenhagen sights.
To save on expenses for your romantic vacation, we highly recommend you get the Copenhagen City Card, which gives you entrance to 80+ attractions, as well as free public transportation and a canal boat cruise.
Getting Around Copenhagen
There are so many ways to get around Copenhagen, and the best option for you really depends on your needs and comfort level.
Driving in Copenhagen
If you choose to drive in Copenhagen, here are some things to know.
Driving in the city is possible but not exactly a breeze. The streets can be narrow, and parking is expensive. Traffic in Copenhagen is not that bad, but since the city is pretty compact, a car isn’t necessary for most people’s purposes.
As such, most travelers choose to opt for public transportation instead.
The best reason to get a rental car in Copenhagen is really for those who will end up exploring more of Denmark outside of the capital. If you’re a U.S. traveler who wants to rent a car for tourism, you may drive in Denmark on your U.S. license for up to 6 months.
Public Transportation in Copenhagen
Copenhagen’s public transit is a thing of beauty. You’ve got the Metro, buses, and trains all seamlessly linked up, whisking you from Nyhavn to Tivoli Gardens in no time. It’s efficient, clean, and pretty darn reliable.
As mentioned before, we highly recommend you get the Copenhagen City Card, which not only gives you entrance to 80+ attractions, but ALSO gives you free public transportation, as well as a canal boat cruise. It’s truly the best value item for travelers to Copenhagen.
Hop-On Hop-Off Tourist Bus
For those couples who don’t feel comfortable navigating public transportation on their own, your best bet is using the hop-on hop-off tourist bus to easily navigate Copenhagen’s top attractions.
A tourist bus will end up being far more cost-effective than a taxi, and since it is designed for tourists, it will seamlessly take you to all the sites you’ll want to visit. You can simply get off at any stop you choose, and hop on at any stop you choose along the route. Just keep an eye on starting and stopping times of the routes!
The tourist bus also comes with a pre-recorded information track that you can choose to plug-in to with provided earplugs, allowing you to sightsee the city in a double decker bus while learning all about the history and culture of Denmark.
Ride a Bike
Now, if you really want to blend in like a local, grab your partner and hop on a bike or electric bike. Seriously, bikes are practically a way of life here. With dedicated lanes and bike-friendly infrastructure, pedaling around the city is not only convenient but also a delightful way to soak in the sights, and a super picturesque way to explore the city with your bae.
We’ll go more into riding an electric bike (known as e-bike) below, as it truly is one of the most authentic experiences a traveler can have to immerse themselves in the culture of Copenhagen.
Walking in Copenhagen
Since it is fairly compact, Copenhagen is a very walkable city.
The narrow streets that can make driving a little difficult actually make for a lovely romantic stroll.
You’ll also find tons of amenities to enhance the pedestrian experience, be it public squares, benches, and even trampolines built into the sidewalks! Couples jump-off, anyone?
Taxis in Copenhagen
Taxis are not cheap, but can be worth it for the convenience, especially if you’re hauling luggage or craving a late-night ride back to your cozy Danish digs after bar-hopping with your lovey.
Airport taxis from the Copenhagen airport to city center costs approximately 250-300 DKK (Danish Krone), about $36-$43.
Another option, for the sake of ultimate convenience, is to pre-book your airport taxi Copenhagen pickup.

Find the Forgotten Giants
Going giant hunting is a crazy thing to do in Copenhagen for couples that sounds a lot weirder than it actually is.
The Six Forgotten Giants are a collection of magnificent wooden troll sculptures crafted by Danish artist Thomas Dambo.
Scattered across the Copenhagen suburbs—including Rødovre, Hvidovre, Vallensbæk, Ishøj, Albertslund, and Høje Taastrup—each giant is a testament to creativity and sustainability, fashioned from recycled materials.
Far from touristy, this is one of the most unique things to do in Copenhagen for couples, to get you out and exploring the city while spending special time with your loved one.
Find all the giants on the artist’s map.
With unique personalities and names like Teddy Friendly and Sleeping Louis, these sculptures captivate visitors with their distinct charm and character.
Some of the most easily accessed giants are Green George of the Freetown Christiania commune in the neighborhood of Sydhavn, and Kaptajn Nalle, in the neighborhood of Nordhavn.
Another option is to take this tour that not only includes a visit to a forgotten giant, but also to the Denmark Forest Tower, a unique thing to do in Copenhagen that offers panoramic forest views.
