With sky-high mountains, spectacular glaciers, remote beaches and temperate rainforests, the second biggest country in the world is home to a plethora of stunning landscapes.
The wildlife is also pretty impressive. Polar bears, grizzly bears, orcas, humpback whales, moose and wolves are just some of the incredible animals you can see on holiday in Canada.

As the natural landscapes (certainly some of the best places to visit in Canada) grab all the headlines, the incredible cities that the country of Canada is home to might get overlooked. Don’t miss out!
We highly recommend visiting some of these vibrant cities in Canada, as not only are there cheap flights to Canada available, but you will get to experience some of the best cities in the world.
This is a guest post by Isabel Leong of Bel Around the World.
Vancouver
There’s a reason why Vancouver has been named the ‘best place to live in the world’ on several occasions. I’ve heard of several instances of just one visit to Vancouver convincing people to get the IEC visa and officially make the move to Canada!
Indeed, this west coast city in British Columbia is certainly unique.
Its cosmopolitan population and diverse restaurant scene help, but it’s the fact that you could go kayaking one day and go skiing the next. And there’s more. There are so many spectacular parts of the city that you can visit such as Gastown or the sprawling Stanley Park.
There are also a plethora of other nearby Vancouver getaways, if you’re interested in exploring the surrounding area. For example, you can head over to Vancouver Island, just a short ferry ride away from Vancouver, B.C.!

Montreal
A home away from home for visitors from France, the second largest city in Canada is Montreal. In fact, it has French as its official language and the language is spoken by more than half of its population.
Its unique architecture, international flavours and laid-back vibe also make Montreal seem like you are walking through modern-day France rather than Canada. We recommend visiting the Notre Dame Basilica, Mount Royal and the botanical gardens during your stay.
Calgary
This city in Alberta is one-of-kind! Between its festivals and nightlife there are great natural attractions on its doorstep too.
The Calgary Stampede is a world-renowned festival that takes place here. This festival transforms the city into a Wild West-inspired playground. Who’d wanna miss that?!
There is so much to include on your Calgary travel guide here, including the Calgary Tower, the zoo, the Glenbow Museum and, of course, the Rocky Mountaineer, a rail journey that follows the Canadian Pacific line through the soaring mountain wall of the Rockies.
Toronto
The largest city in Canada is also its best-known and is seen by many as a slightly more clean-cut version of New York City. Toronto makes for a perfect destination for a romantic weekend!
You’ll find so much to do in Toronto such as visiting the CN Tower, which was once the worlds tallest. You might also want to explore its unique districts like the Distillery District, as this full of fantastic eateries and other great entertainment venues.
It’s also an easy day trip from Toronto to Niagara Falls!
Ottawa
Despite being the capital city of Canada, Ottawa has a small feel about it. This is especially true when comparing it to the likes of Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal.
The city is also a great place to set up base if you want to explore the country’s famed wilderness, as it is right on its doorstep. Must-visit attractions in the city include Parliament Hill and the Rideau Canal, which becomes the largest ice-skating rink during the winter months.
Canada is a great destination to visit any time of the year and, as such, it was one of Television of Nomad‘s recommended destinations included in their Top Autumn Travel Destinations article!
So which of the top cities to visit in Canada do you plan to trek to first?! Why don’t you shoot us a comment below and let us know! And if you’re thirsting for more in Canada, be sure to check out the most beautiful places in Canada!
